Der Prima ist der Einstieg vom Starönologen Mariano Garcia, der 30 Jahre bei Vega Sicilia gearbeitet hat. Der Prima besteht aus Tinta de Toro (ein örtlicher Tempranillo-Klon) und Garnacha. Beeindruckend kräftig und voll in Nase und Gaumen. Die Rebstöcke sind zwischen 10 und 50 Jahre alt. Die Farbe ist sehr dunkel und dicht, in der Nase rote und schwarze Früchte mit einem Hauch floraler Noten, kräftiger Würze und sanfter Mineralität. Am Gaumen sehr ausgeglichen, dicht, körperreich und frisch mit kräftigen, aber weichen Tanninen. Lang, jung, klasse! Spitzenwein für weing Geld!!!

Parker: 92+/100 - The 2020 Prima used to be the lightest and most approachable of the reds from San Román until the birth of the varietal Garnacha. It was produced with Tinta de Toro and 15% Garnacha and other varieties with 14.5% alcohol and mellow acidity, cropped from a cooler year of lighter and fresher wines. This had a soft vinification with short macerations and an élevage in 3,000- and 4,000-liter oak foudres and 500-liter barrels for 14 months, a regimen that seems to work quite well with the already powerful wines from the region, making them more approachable and better balanced. Delicious. 171,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022.

San Román is the project in Toro from the García family from Mauro. They have 130 hectares of vineyards in the villages of San Román de Hornija, Pedrosa del Rey, Villaester and Morales de Toro that are certified organic, and since 2016, they have worked with biodynamics. They produce an average of 300,000 bottles.
